piston26 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Hi, I noticed on another thread someone said its possible to alter pdf files within autocad. I would like to know how to do that, because I work for a company which has many drawings on file in pdf format, but whenever they need to be even slightly altered I have to redraw them. If its possible to open a pdf within autocad and edit it that would make my job much easier. Quote
viviancarvalho Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I think that is not possible at all. You can attach the pdf file into autocad for drawing over them. But altering the pdf is not possible as of yet. It could be in the future ????? Quote
ReMark Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I'm aware that in 2010 AutoDesk introduced PDF Enhancements but I don't recall being able to directly edit a PDF was one of the options. I'd have to check whether further functionality was added in version 2011. A quick check of the AutoDesk site and the FAQ for 2011 does not mention anything about the ability to directly edit PDF files. Reference is made about using such files as an underlay which Vivian points out in her post above. Caveat: Don't believe half of what you hear and some of what you read. Quote
MikeScott Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 The program "Wintopo" will take jpgs and stuff if you convert the PDF to it. I think that might be the discussion you're referencing. Quote
f700es Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 The only real way to edit a PDF is to open it in either Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw. Illustrator being the preferred way to do it. Now the PDF files must be vector files and not raster. Quote
Ryder76 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 http://anydwg.com/pdf-to-dwg.html The link will take you to software that will convert a pdf to a dxf. It is a 'free' download that allows you to use it 20 times. The cost is only $180 and would be worth it if you use it alot. The thing is that when the pdf becomes a dxf everything is exploded and you have to work with it, but it's better than tracing over the pdf. 'OVERKILL' is a good acad command for cleaning broken or extra lines and the text has to be redone as it becomes lines instead of text. Quote
f700es Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Huh $180 is not bad if you have to do this with any frequency. I might have to try it and see how it does. Good call on the OVERKILL command. Quote
piston26 Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 the comment was along the lines of how pdf files can be modified using CAD, and it was by one of the users on this site. but I've never heard of it until now, thats why I'm asking. thanks for your help so far Quote
Cad64 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Can you post a link to the thread where you found this information? Quote
Naddoo Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 ProgeCAD is the software for conversion of pdf to dwg Quote
ReMark Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Naddoo: The original poster (OP) is asking about doing it in AutoCAD. But thanks for the additional info. Quote
Naddoo Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I know it is a additional info, but doing a conversion is more better then waisting more time on editing and importing. Quote
ReMark Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Yes, and wasting money to buy another CAD package just to do a DWG to PDF conversion makes even less sense. Be realistic. Quote
