hatching lines

for some reason, sometimes when i change the linetype to a dashed line instead of a continuous line, it shows up in model space, but not in my viewport in paper space. the picture itself shows up, but the lines are not dashed anymore. is this just my software screwing up?

Sounds like a linetype scale setting. What are the settings for LTSCALE and PSLTSCALE?
