Layers for doors and windows

What can I do so that doors and windows are inserted into the current layer instead of the default A-Door and A-Glaz layers?

Make sure you insert a block that created with layer 0.

Let's use doors as an example:

I have a layer called Door_Ext and it is my current layer.

When I insert a door into a wall, it automatically places the door into the default layer A-Door.

I want it to be inserted into my current layer of Door_Ext.

 

How can this be done?

Are you pulling the block from a tool palette?

If you are pulling off a tool palette you can right click on the block and select 'properties' all the way at the bottom. It brings up this dialog box and you can tell it what layer to place the block.

In my computer, if I insert door's block in current layer example, Door_ex. Automatically that block inserted in current layer except the color of block depend on the color in the block file. If you set layer 0 in block file, you can get the same color whereever you insert it.

Also if you pulling off from tool pallete, that same result above.

 

Or anyone can solve his problem ?

Okay......I'm using Architecture 2008.

I'm using the "Add Door" command from the Design pull-down menu (_AecDoorAdd at command line).

I'm not using a palette or inserting a basic block.

No matter what layer I have set to current, the door is inserted into the A-door layer.

I want it to be inserted into my current layer.

Is there a way to do this?

Maybe a Mod can move this to the vertical forum. It may be that your pull down menu has a default built in for where each block goes. There may be a setting you can change or it may involve changing code. Either way I don't know anything about your vertical - sorry.

Is it doing this with all AEC objects? it could be that your layer settings in the drawing setting is set to current layer instead of AIA standard. What you will need to do is go into your drawing setup, there is a tiny button in the lower left hand part of the screen. Go to the layering tab, and select the layer key you wish to use.

 

If that is not it, then right click on the tool you use, go to properties, and look at the layer key, make sure there is no override to the layer key on that tool.
