grasshopper Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I have multiple computers at home all loaded with autoCAD 2007, at work I use 2008, why is it when opening up my autoCAD folder from my portable harddrive on some computers a dwf file will open up alonside with the dwg file instead of the normal (or I see it as normal) bak file? I'd like for all my pc's to have a bak file insead of a dwf file, can anyone tell me how? thanks in advance folks. Quote
Ryder76 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 'dwf' ? do you mean a dwl? DWL (drawing lock) file: a temporary DWL file is automatically created when a file is opened and then deleted when the file is closed. BAK file: Each time you save a drawing, the previous version of your drawing is saved to a file with the same name and a .bak file extension. Quote
Ryder76 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Don't think I can help - don't know what a dwf is. DXF, DWL, DWT yep... edit: I looked it up in help and it has to do with 3D - Don't use 3D sorry... Quote
tzframpton Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 a DWF file has to be created manually, it cannot just "appear" like the BAK file. And how does a DWF file alongside a DWG?? When you open a DWG then only that CAD drawing is opened in AutoCAD. I'm not really understanding your issue.... not to be rude but it just doesn't make any sense. Quote
grasshopper Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 yeah I'm not too sure either it seems to be some kind of "settings" deal, but I went up and down the "options" menu and can't find anything on it, just for kicks I tried to change the dwf. file into a bak and dwg file and got "cannot verify file" go figure, I can't understand how or why it happened. Thanks anyway. Quote
tzframpton Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 nope it's definately a dwf. I'm not saying it isn't, it's just odd. When you open the DWF what happens? Quote
NBC Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 it is possible that one of the options has been set to publish a dwf file when either you close or save a drawing Quote
tzframpton Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Is that an option, really?? If so that would be awesome actually. I just looked in Options > Open and Save and didn't see any option available for this Quote
grasshopper Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 I saw that in the "options" "plot and publish" tab, I made the change so I gotta wait till I get home to try it out, just looking if there may be something else causing it. Quote
Pablo Ferral Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I reckon you've got 'autopublish' turned on. This would explain the DWF's. DWF's are essentially a plot file, just like PDF's. They are not a replacement for the BAK file. Maybe you've got 'display hidden file types' turned off in Windows? Quote
JD Mather Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 dwf is Drawing Web Format used to view 2D with free Design Review or computers with Vista or later OS. Design Review can also open dwf with 3D models. Quote
