Just wondering if it is possible to turn everything off in a drawing except blocks so that I can see which blocks I have used without having to search for them separately. Using Autocad 2009 :)

Try this... not sure about 2009 though

Use Quick Select to select all the Block Inserts

while they are selected, click the Isolate objects button on the Status bar (lightbulb icon)

You could use Quick select to select all Blocks with the operator ' Not equal' ie - select everything that is not a block
