Hello,

 

Maryland Crabs are grand. However, I need some advice of where to research, Autocad Bible is good to get you acquainted to CAD but does not go into great detail in my opinion. I get dwg files from architects and engineers and edit their drawings on a frequent basis. I learned that they save them on a FTP so multiple people work on them and they do it by individual blocks that are passworded so nobody can mess with there portion of the drawing. By the time it gets to me its a crazy assortment that takes hours to figure out how to explode and what not to edit. They set every individual detail as its own viewport. I have never utilized viewports and do not even know what they are really besides the name. I need to find a better resource than autocad bible to learn things because I have nobody to teach me at work; hence, the only cad *****! lol. Any feedback about the whole viewport thing would be great.

What do you want to know?

There are many tutorials online, just Google it.

Also, read your Autocad Help files.

 

I would also recommend getting another book. The Bible is good, but there are other books that go more in-depth like the ones written by George Omura. Check Amazon.com for a book that covers your version of Autocad.

autocad help (f1) blows. I have googled it and there is not much helpful info out there on capturing the entire idea/tool. i am going to buy a view books and a video. i just was seeing if there was a solid tutorial online for free without torrenting or buying.

The AutoDesk website itself as well as your own version of AutoCAD may already have tutorials dealing with the subject. If not then join AUGI and get access to some of their educational resources.

 

Re: Viewports.

 

They are just windows that allow the user to look back into model space to see the objects that have been created. Viewports can be given individual scales. That's one possible reason why the architects have so many. They are not all the same scale are they?

Really? Have you looked or are you just saying that because that's what everyone else always says. There is actually a lot of good information in the Help files.

Drawing Setup in AutoCAD 2010. OK, so it is a newer release but the info it contains about model space and paper space hasn't changed much in the past few releases.
