Dana W Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Don't open the next drawing by clicking on the *.dwg in the folder if AutoCAD is already open. Use the menu items, File > Open from within the program. Windows goes to find the *.exe file associated with that file extension, and runs it. Quote
UMRVJX Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 @Dana W...its works but it's not a salutation....there are more then 10 pc with Auto cad in my office all of these working well..only 1 pc have this problem i try to understand other pc settings but there is no difference between setting...please any other salutation Quote

Sorry but I think it is working properly. Open a drawing from within AutoCAD, it opens in the same exe. Open a drawing from windows explorer and it opens in a new exe. That's how mine does it and I like it. Quote
nukecad Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 As Dbroada says the single 'drawing-compatability mode' (SDI) controls this behavour. Look in TOOLS > OPTIONS > SYSTEM, if it is ticked you will get a new Autocad opening when you double click a drawing, if not ticked you will get a new tab in the already open Autocad. If it still wont work look at the link that msasu gave. Quote

Wait, wait. It does exist as a system variable though. I never needed to look for it before. Ya know, it DOES NOT come up in the Help Index either. Quote

Open a drawing from windows explorer and it opens in a new exe. That's how mine does it and I like it. I prefer one AutoCAD window. When all drawings are open in one window, you can use the Ctrl+Tab to cycle through the drawings rather than having to use the menu options to select which drawing you want to go to. Faster and easier in my opinion. My laptop had ACAD 2008. I tried to upgrade to 2010, but it just crashed, stalled or brought up the Vista "The program is not responding and will close" window. After uninstalling 2010, 2008 would then open drawings in separate windows and I never found a solution. Setting SDI didn't change anything, and I read a post somewhere that suggested a service pack update, but to no avail. I have since installed Windows 7 & ACAD 2010 and every thing works OK. I just wish it'd do that cutsie wootsie rolodex dance with the drawing windows that Vista does with program windows. Quote
UMRVJX Posted June 19, 2010 Author Posted June 19, 2010 can't understand what you say...problem still alive Quote
