Inserting a block. No go.

I have had an issue recently while trying to insert a block into a drawing using 2000i. The block is a D size border that I have saved onto our network. When I attempt to insert the block, I receive this message at the command line:

 

_-insert Enter block name or [?]

[ReMark]

ReMark, is that explode on the insert command, or explode it inside of the block drawing itself? Cad64 didn't specify.

Open the .dwg file and use explode in there. Save and close.

Thank's rkent. Though I've always wondered about those blocks that don't insert unless you explode on insert. Anybody know a reason? Anybody else ever have that happen?

usually somebody makes a block in the current drawing and then saves the current drawing with the same name.

As far as I know that's the only way to get this error; Acad wont let you create a block containing a block of the same name but will let you save a drawing containing a block of the same name as the drawing.

 

When you try to insert that drawing as a block Acad tries to use that drawing name for a new block - but it cant because that would mean nesting blocks with the same name and it would go into an infinity loop trying to put the block within the block, within the block, within the block,..............

I don't know what I was talking about in that thread? Either I misunderstood the question or my brain was fried from too much time on the computer that day. Pay no mind to that reply. I'm surprised it worked for the OP.
