toberino Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Are there any tricks, changes I can make to speed up autocad in general when there are several pdf underlays imported in? Quote

toberino Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 Unload them, and/or freeze the layer they reside on.Restore only to plot. hmm, my first attemt at a reply and it says server cannot be found. so here I go with trying to remember my well thought out and written reply I just got done typing. PDF underlay was introduced in autocad to give you snap points(endpoints, midpoints, and intersections) so that you could trace and copy the pdf. While freezing and turning off the layers works, plotting is not why I import them. Therefore this solution will not work for me. While autocad operates fine under normal usage conditions, even importing jpeg's, a terrible lag is involved as soon as I import a pdf. It is lterally almost a 5 to 10 second delay while panning and zooming around. So I am trying to find out if there are any settings I can change that will make things a little less laggy when there is a pdf imported in and the layer state is active. And, rkmcswain, thank you for your reply. I am excited to be a part of this forum and look forward to becoming a CAD operating pro. Man, my first reply sounded way better. Quote
rkmcswain Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Sorry. I was simply answering the question about changes you could make to speed up AutoCAD. Basically, getting rid of the PDF is how you speed it up, by unloading, freezing, etc. Does that defeat the purpose of being able to work with PDF's? Yes, it's a trade off. Quote
jknowlage Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Are there any tricks, changes I can make to speed up autocad in general when there are several pdf underlays imported in? While this isn't much of a solution, I did find a helpful TRICK that seems to help me save a few minutes a day. I have a beefy PC setup, but my display still lags when panning around drawings with PDF's attached. I use the scroll bars for panning in this situation. Right click on an empty area of the drawing and click "Options". Choose the Display tab and check the first box for "Display scroll bars in drawing window." Now use the toolbars to pan faster by dragging the scroll bar around. Oh and try clipping the unnecessary portions of your attachment, seems to help here. These are old habits I have carried over from using Microstation for too long... Quote
