mtext edit is too light

The text in my mtext edit box has recently become almost too light to read.

This happened a few years ago and I remember changing a variable that fixed the problem. Of course I don't remember what that variable was!

Its a windows setting ' smooth edges of screen fonts' in the control panel display settings.

 

Control panel > display >apperarance > effects - uncheck the smoothing option.

Dont know why it does this to the mtext editor but it does.
