JohnH2005 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Ok, so I have the 2010 Auto Cad EDU lic. My company bought me a full retail version of 2010. I uninstalled the EDU version and installed the full retail copy and it is still reading the EDU lic. I am running Vista (ewwww) 32 bit. How do I get rid of the EDU lic so it will not read that any more? Quote
rkent Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 ANYTHING created, worked on and saved, etc. in a EDU copy will have the EDU Stamp on them. Buying a legit license will not clean the old files. Anything you work on from scratch from here on out will not have the EDU stamp. This is designed to keep the cheap or free education license from being used to compete with folks that bought the commercial license. Quote
JohnH2005 Posted September 7, 2010 Author Posted September 7, 2010 Thank you Rkent for that information. I already knew that. That is not the problem. The problem is, when I open up Autocad 2010 full retail copy by double clicking on the newly install icon on my desktop, it shows at the top of the screen EDU copy. This is starting a new drawing from scratch not opening an old drawing, not using an old short cut, but, using the brand new newly installed icon on my desktop that was created during the brand new fresh install of a full retail copy of Autocad 2010. What I want to know is 1. Why after a complete uninstall of the EDU version and a fresh install of a full retail copy of 2010 is AutoCad still reading the EDU lic? 2. How do I stop it from reading the EDU Lic and make it start reading the lic my company paid for? Quote
lpseifert Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 You may want to ask your Autodesk reseller... that being said, maybe a clean uninstall of the edu version is in order http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=2887771&linkID=9240617 Quote

rkent Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Sorry for the misunderstanding. I am sure the EDU code is embedded deep in the registry. I would ask AutoDesk or your reseller for an uninstall program that will clean the registry. If that is not an option, then uninstall, run a registry cleaner, install the new license. The post above gives you a link for how to do a clean uninstall. Did you bother following that link? Quote
JohnH2005 Posted September 7, 2010 Author Posted September 7, 2010 Actually, I did not follow that link. I use a program called RevoUninstaller Pro that is really great at removing almost everything related to any program you uninstall, including registry entries and other stuff. It must have missed whatever file AutoDesk uses. I was hoping there would be someone here that could help without having to wait on hold to get someone on the phone who will walk me through every baby step possible... I am going to try a couple of more thing on my own. Any other help/suggestions would be appreciated. Going to try the steps from that link now. Quote
Bill Tillman Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 We went through a similar situation years ago when someone took a bunch of files home and worked on them with an educational copy. It totally wrecked about 100 or so files with the EDUCATION stamp. We had to beg and plead with our Autodesk rep to come into our office and clean it up and they did. I can't recall if they charged us for this service or not. IMHO AutoCAD is a teriffic program worth every penny you pay for it. But for something you spend around $3,800 per copy for they should be falling out of the sky to help you with this problem. You paid for a legitimate copy, now your rep should insure that you're able to use it. Quote
JD Mather Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 You never needed to uninstall ANYTHING. Simply go to Help>About AutoCAD>Product Information and click on Change Serial Number. Follow the instructions to activate your new serial number. Quote
JD Mather Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 ... someone took a bunch of files home and worked on them with an educational copy. Not the OP's problem description. Quote
JohnH2005 Posted September 7, 2010 Author Posted September 7, 2010 I completely followed all instructions on that page to the T. Reinstalled with the retail CD and retail key and still not working. I guess I will sit and wait on the phone and trouble shoot a perfectly good working computer for four hours before they can actually help me. Quote
