Bobzy20
Hi does 3DS Max come with its own Autodesk rendering engine like AutoCAD and then you could enhance this with the purchase of something like V-Ray? Or does V-Ray come with it anyway? Any help would be great. Bobzy20
f700es
Hi Bob, I am pretty sure that both (AutoCAD and Max) use Mental-Ray which is a very good rendering engine. There is a add-on for V-ray for Max not sure about AutoCAD.
Cad64
Yes, Max and Autocad both ship with Mental Ray, but the Autocad version of MR is sort of a stripped down version. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the Max version has. That's why lots of firms build models in Autocad and then apply materials and render in Max. Some people claim Vray is better than Mental Ray, but I just don't see it. Vray has a few features that Mental Ray doesn't have, yet, but as far as the ability to produce high quality photorealistic renders, I really don't see a difference. There are Vray plug-ins for Max, Maya, Rhino and Sketchup. No plug-in for Autocad.
f700es
I have tried the V-ray SU plug-in and it does through out some nice images but then again so does Kerkythea
arjun_samar
It doesn't matter what kind of sword the swordsman is holding , what matters most is how skillful the swordsman is. If your going to purchase 3ds Max it's better to try first mental ray like what Mr. Cad64 said it's ships with max so it's free! then if you don't quite like MR. then you can try Vray (which is not free). It's a matter of personal choice when it comes to rendering engine of choice.
marmo
It 's been almost a year from the small / big revolution in the field of CG. With the arrival of Octane Render we could see the real-time rendering! This engine's speed based on GPU graphics card, made available by the new class NVIDIA Quadro cards developed with CUDA technology. No joke, because the speed of calculation is skipped in a much shorter time (30-40 times less). Now we are adapting to this new trend also other software house that produce rendering engines. Now the engine of 3ddmax 2011 is Iray, also designed to take advantage of the GPU graphics card. More speed means more complexity in the tracking of the light, more features and thus higher quality in rendering.
