ByColor option in my Property Toolbar is inactive. How to make it active and how to use this ByColor property? What are the advantages of by color...

If you're referring to the item in the Plot Style on the Properties palette, it just shows the status- Color based or Style based plotting. It's inactive because it can't be changed via Properties. If you want to change the way you plot use the Convertpstyles command.

That will be grayed out because the file is set to use CTB plot files. If you open a file that uses STB, or you convert the current file (convertpstyles) that will not be gray and will instead show you the varioius plot style names found in the current STB set for that file.

Do a search on CTB and STB. For some reason people are very passionate about the subject and get very upset when someone comes out for one or the other.

Some links:

A good article discussing the differences between STB and CTB.

A good article on one firm's adoption of STB's. This is just one way of

many ways to set up STB standards so don't read this as the only way to use

STB's.
