Programming mouse buttons

I just purchased a Steel Series XAI laser mouse. I heard that you can assign certain commands to the different buttons on the mouse. Like to turn ortho on/off, or instead of hitting escape you can click a button on the mouse. Anyone know how to do this?

Start by opening the CUI editor and look under the section called Mouse Buttons.

Okay. I am in the CUI settings for mouse buttons....not too sure what I am doing. LOL.

I'm not too sure, but I was under the impression the CUI "mouse buttons" didn't really apply to mouse buttons, but rather to digitizer buttons?

 

Does your mouse documentation tell you about how to program the buttons?

I am just a little confused on the concept. The manufacturer of the mouse has a great software program where you can assign different profiles and settings. I am just confused....

How many buttons on this mouse anyway? If a digitizing puck with 16-buttons is still considered a pointing device wouldn't a mouse with extra buttons be similar?

It looks like it has 5 extra buttons in addition to the tilt wheel. I don't know about digitizers and pucks, but I haven't had any luck using AutoCAD to assign my mouse buttons. It looks like a pretty cool mouse, actually.

MW, unless there's a pre-assigned command, you'll likely use the "macro" option in the mouse software and use the keystrokes you'd use in AutoCAD to make the macro. For example, CTRL+1 would open the Properties palette, and "F2" toggles OSNAPS on and off, "F8" is Ortho. "Escape" may be a little tricky if they don't already have that one already assigned because often will just exit you out of the macro editor. If you need help with any of the shortcut keys for AutoCAD, just ask.

I use a MX620 Cordless Laser Mouse and I have customized buttons on my mouse using the configure settings with the mouse software. All I changed though was the two thumb buttons to represent Ctrl and Shift. This way I can access menus while having a command active (OSnaps menu) or to enhance a command (Ctrl + wheel in = "hyper" scroll).
