Im sure here is similarpost like this one, but i dont find keywords for searchbar since im beginnerstill :D

Im making custom pc-case with Autocad 2011, and i will need to try fitting components in, right places. How you guys model 3d from example "real" 3d-card or motherboards :? (just make rightdimensions, and then paste image top of it ?)

Im on good progress on selfeducating but this part i dont understant :)

Thanks guys

How much detail do you really require?

If I were modeling a graphics card I would do the basic card shape itself and add the fan/heat sink and that's about it. I don't see a need to add a graphic just to make it look pretty. You're trying to assess whether or not all the parts will fit correctly and still leave you room to work inside the case.

There are a ton of ways to go about that type of modeling

This ( network PCI card ) was done mostly with extruded 2D solid, circles. I made a mesh for foot plate. Dimensionally - fairly close ( I didn't break out any calipers )

You could also use 3D solids. A lot depends on your experience level. Also Auotcad is probably not the best tool for this type of modeling. Esp if you have a lot of it to do.
