AutoCAD 2009, fast and crippled now slow but fully working

Hello,

my first post here, so Hi to everyone.

I have a relatively fast laptop. 4gb ram, 2.4ghz P9400 processor. My previous cad was 2008 and with XP32bit installed. This is a company laptop btw. As over last year it became incredibly slow and out of updates, IT decided to reinstall the machie. It got back to me with Windows 7 64bit and AutoCAD 2009 (SP3). After being sceptical at first, lookin into hints here: http://www.blog.cadnauseam.com/2009/06/16/autocad-2010-putting-things-back-to-normal/ I got it turned into 2008 alike pretty quickly. To my biggest surprise though was a speed of the new version which was basically super fast! Drawings (really big and with 600+layers) opened within seconds and switching between layers took about a second. I was soooo impressed! It didn't last long until I realised I suffer from the same problem as desribed here: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?6968-unknown-command-problem. Virtually half or more commands just didn't work. Therefore I asked IT to reinstall CAD. They did and I did got back a full functionality, sadly though the speed suffered the most. Drawings now open for approx 30-40 seconds with a change between 2 open drawings taking approx 20sec.

So, my question is: whether it is possible to enjoy the pleasures of both worlds?:), i.e. ultrafast speed and full functionality?

It seems really strange that the same 2 chunky drawings can be swiftly switched between each other and opened within seconds, and then after the software reinstall all is cr@ppy slow;(

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
