So i need to use template as a layout into which i could create a viewport, but when opening my dwt file only a blank layout page shows up, nevertheless i can see the desired template in little icon when choosing the right dwt file. I know i have some settings messed up somewhere, but where and what?

Just to make it clear.

1. I made a drawing which i saved as a template/dwt file. Need to open that in a layout window.

2. Made a plain dwg drawing, which i need to "open" in a viewport.

3. Insert-layout-from template, chose my dwt and BAM white a4 paper comes up.

When i open some of the original cad dwt files, the right "drawing" comes up fine and everything works, so there must be something wrong with my file.

One way of doing it.

Open your model space drawing.

Click on the Layout1 tab. Right-click on the tab and open the Page Setup Manager. Select your printer/plotter and page size. Plot area should be Layout. Plot scale should be 1:1. Return to your layout.

Create two new layers. One will be for your title block and border. The other will be for your viewport(s). Make sure to set the viewport layer to not plot.

Using the Insert command find the folder with your custom template file (dwt). Insert it as you would any normal block.

Create a viewport. Size it according to your needs. You can always go back and resize it using its grips.

Once your viewport has been created you should now be able to see your model space objects. Yes/No/Where did everything go?

Let's stop here. Once you have done all of the above come back here and we will continue.

Thanks a lot! Got it done this way, to be honest I have never inserted a block from other document and didn't even know about this opportunity. Got the last piece of my school project done, a few days over the deadline, but still. Again thank you!

I have a feeling your next project will go a lot quicker.

You're entirely welcomed. :)
