ColinPearson Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Is there some obvious resource I'm missing for printing out a list of all system variables (in one document) AND each of the possible values for those variable? Quote
ReMark Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 The only resource I am aware of is the defaults.svf file. It lists all the variables and their default values. It does not list all possible values. Maybe one of the real "gurus" here can provide you with a better answer. Quote
ColinPearson Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 That's what I had come up with as well. If I find it on my own, I'll definitely repost as I suspect this could be useful to a lot of folks here. And thanks for your reply ReMark, as always. From your profile I see you're in CT, hope the snow isn't too fierce... Quote
Tyke Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 In Express Tools you can call the system variable dialog (from the menu/ribbon or with "_.sysvdlg" from the command line) where you can see an explanation of each system variable along with all the possible values for each one. You can also save all of your current values to a file of your own name with the .svf extension. The .svf file can be read in any text editor. Quote
JPlanera Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Well SYSVDLG will list all the variables and their possible values, but i dont think you can print it all out... its a shame that the .svf file doesnt show it all Quote
ReMark Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 A listing of system variables can be found in the AutoCAD 2011 Help file under Command Reference > System Variables but the range of values for each is not mentioned. The storm wasn't that bad, snow-wise, for us. I think my area got about 12" but the wind was definitely fierce. I had patches of pavement showing at the top of my driveway while at the bottom I had 24" deep drifts. There has to be close to 800 system variables in plain AutoCAD. http://docs.autodesk.com/ACD/2010/ENU/AutoCAD%202010%20User%20Documentation/index.html?url=WSfacf1429558a55de1a7524c1004e616f8b-64f4.htm,topicNumber=d0e338374 Remember too you are dealing with four types of variables. -Those that are stored in the drawing. -Those that are written to the Windows Registry. -Those that are Read-Only. -Those that are not stored but default values are assigned automatically. Which ones are of the most interest to you? Quote
ColinPearson Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 24" is not too bad, but still a definite storm! I think that I will mostly want to deal with the ones stored in the dwg, and the ones stored in registry. Reall, what I was going for was a print out I could stick to the wall and referenceany time I thought a system variable would be a better route that whatever I was trying at the moment. This is just an attempt on my part to better learn what I'm doing; I don't have a specific problem at the moment. Quote
