Marc5 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I created a table in excel and linked it to cad with DATALINK. The excel table only has 6 rows. The linked table in cad has 26 rows. I do not need the additional rows. How do I get rid of them? Thanks, Marc Quote
JPlanera Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 In the data link dialog box, is a a "Link to Range" set that to the desired setting Quote
Marc5 Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Sorry, Where would I find the data link dialog box? Quote
JPlanera Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 No problem! Enter DATALINK at the command line. The Data Link Manager will display Links. Double click on the Excell link you have specified. The Excell data link dialog box appears with all your options. Under "Link options" check the box "Link to range" and set the range you desire. Quote
Marc5 Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 COOL...... THANKS! Can this happen automatically? Quote
JPlanera Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Probably, but its no worth the headache. Quote
Marc5 Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 lol agree. Thanks again. Need help with room sch. You have time to look at my problem(s)? Quote
JPlanera Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I would be happy to take a look. Although if this is an unrelated problem to this thread, I would recommend staring a new topic. You will get more views, and more help... Quote
Marc5 Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Okay, Thanks. Will post new thread. I thought I did one a few days ago, but do not see it. Quote
Marc5 Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 Well, I thought all was COOL. The data extraction was working great - two times - now after going through all the steps to insert an excel file, setting rage A1:C22 nothing shows up in CAD What step am I missing? Quote
JPlanera Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 After you set up a datalink, you must use the TABLE command and insert from data link under the Insert Options section Quote
Marc5 Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 Stupid Me. Thanks. Works just fine when you follow all the steps. Now that the table has been inserted, to update - if needed - I use datalinkupdate, correct? Of course I will need to re-set the range. Thanks! Quote
Marc5 Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 A data link. Can all cells be unlocked at one time and remain unlocked? Quote
irneb Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 A data link. Can all cells be unlocked at one time and remain unlocked? Not too sure ... I've found updating to sometimes screw up this (especially if there's new rows / columns). Now that the table has been inserted, to update - if needed - I use datalinkupdate, correct? Of course I will need to re-set the range. If you find the range is constantly changing, you may rather want to use named ranges in Excel. That way you don't need to modify the data link each time ... just ensure that Excel's named range points to the correct cells (which should update automatically if you insert or delete rows / columns). In Excel 2007 you add / redefine named ranges here: Quote
Marc5 Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 So true on the DATALINKUPDATE. Thought I was doing something wrong. I have to erase link in CAD and re-insert if the link needs to be updated. I have found it will not update NEW rows, too. I will give the excel's named range a try. Thanks for the advice. Marc Quote
irneb Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 What you can also try is to either turn on / off formatting from Excel. When editing the data link in ACad's Data Link Manager, notice there's an expand button on the bottom right - this grows the dialog to show some extra options. Maybe one of these should help in your scenario. Quote
