is there a way to set a skin for the interface in LT?

The choices are so limited you might as well say they are non-existent. Don't waste your time.

There is the option of a dark colour scheme and light colour scheme on options->Display (top left of the dialogue box.) Other than that you can customise the colours of various elements but I don't believe you can add skins to the GUI unless there is some sort of proprietary software out there.

Dark and Light. Wow! So many choices. In the 2012 version I think AutoDesk added a new one: Medium. LOL

Well you can always skin your OS GUI. Depending on your OS and version of LT. With XP and Vista your can run the UXpatcher and use any of the thousands of MS Visual Styles out there to change the way your OS looks and to some extents acts.

I run these myself as I like to have a little style with my PCs.
