Okay I can't figger this one out.

With 2011 I can't seem to hatch unless I am in the model tab.

Hatching in other tabs isn't possible since the boundary isn't detected.

I am stumped on this.

Hi..... welcome to the Forum.

You should only hatch in model space. Why do you want to hatch in Paperspace?

The hatch can be made Annotative is you are worried about it being the right scale to be viewed in different scale viewports.

You should be able to hatch objects in modelspace while you're in modelspace mode, and paperspace objects while you're in paperspace mode, but you can't hatch modelspace objects while in paperspace mode.

I was assuming the OP was inside an active viewport on a Paperspace layout and it was not working for him.

Although if he is just trying to create a hatch in paperspace from lifework in a non active viewport in modeslapce, well there is the problem.

Why should I only hatch in Model Space? If I need some hatching in my titleblock or need some solid hatch over something in a viewport, I should do it in Model Space? :?

As already mentioned if the object you want to Hatch are in Model Space then yes, you will need to be in Model space to hatch them. If this is the case, you will need to place the boundary objects in Paper Space to hatch them in Paper Space. You can just make a copy in Model and use CHSPACE to move them into the viewport.

Thanks for clearing that up SLW210....

I think Generally most people only use Hatching in Model space.... (apart from in your title block) !

Dink is correct I am in an active viewport in modelspace in a specific tab (layout).

Hatching only seems to work in the model layout.

If I draw a circle or rectangle and then intersect it with a line the hatch disregards the line and only hatches the complete circle or rectangle.

This is very frustrating.

I am not hatching in paperspace.

The only other TAB is the Layout TAB a.k.a. Paper Space/Model Space if in an active viewport.

You must have a defective copy of AutoCAD 2011. I have no problems Hatching in Paper Space or Model Space using AutoCAD 2011.

When you are working through a viewport on the Layout TAB, you are working in Model Space through the viewport, it is still Model Space, but you are in the Layout TAB. Hatch will not recognize a line in Paper Space when the viewport is active into Model Space.

Please post a portion of this strange drawing.

Is the line possibly at a different Z value than the circle? How are you selecting your Hatch area?

Check your hatch settings and see if island detection is set improperly

Posted

Well it is most defiately some setting in 2011 as I don't have any problem in 2005 with the same drawing.

Are there hatch settings which are viewport dependant?

Have you got something like this?

If it isn't too much trouble, would you mind answering a few questions?

Not in front of 2011 right now but it would be helpful to confirm settings for hatch.

I am selecting hatch area by picking a point.

I am using normal hatches that I have used in the past.

I tried to recreate the problem, and the only way I could do it was if the line didn't actually intersect the other object, or if the line was above or below the object and the view was rotated in a manner that made them appear not to intersect on the xy plane. I'd also like to see the part of the drawing you're having trouble with.

I am attaching the drawing Iam working on.

There is a circle below the house elevation with a construction line running through it. I can only hatch the complete circle in the "working" layout.

In the "model" layout I can hatch both portions of the circle separately.

This has to be a layout dependant problem.

I had no problems Hatching with pick points or Select object.

Pay attention to my settings and compare yours. As an after thought, try selecting the Hatch Origin, I picked the Center of the Circle.

Try and hatch in the layout labelled "working"

Wierd.

I see what you're seeing. I can hatch normally in the model tab, but I can only hatch the entire circle in the MS viewport, and even then, hatch preview doesn't work. It seems to have something to do with the view, because when I rolled the house upside down with the compass, I can hatch either side of the circle ( although hatch preview still didn't work)

Here's a demo

Scratch that, Hatch and hatch preview work normally when the UCS is set to World. Now why is your house upside down? Is it in the southern hemisphere
