blatz.boy Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Is anyone else annoyed with text placement shifting down when a symbol like "/" is used in a text object. As far as I can tell, this only happens with Mtext and not Dtext. I kind of see why, but not how, this happens. Does anyone know if there is a way to keep this from happening? Thanks. Quote
blatz.boy Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Yes, AutoStack is turned on, and I understand why you ask this, so let me clarify. If I'm not mistaken, autostack only applies to numerical entries and not alpha characters. My stack settings are adjusted for size so that stacked fractions do not increase the spacing or placement of the text. When I enter detail references, such as "A/A601," AutoStack does not automatically apply stacking to this, which wouldn't be wanted anyway. So, my original question applies to the use of "/" with alpha entries and not numerical entries. Maybe the "/" was a bad example. Keep in mind that this happens with all larger symbols...( ) { } \ [ ] etc. Again, I understand that the spacing is adjusted because the size of these symbols is larger than the text. If the spacing were not adjusted in text where there are multiple lines, the symbols would overlap the text of another line. Anyone know of a way that these symbols would be sized the same height as the text, and therefore not requiring the shift in placement? Thanks. Quote
eldon Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Do you have the Line Spacing set to At Least or Exactly? Quote
blatz.boy Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 The paragraph line spacing is not selected. Quote
SLW210 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I get the same results in Mtext or Dtext ......What are you trying to do? The [] {} are by design larger and the bottom portion lines up with lower case gqpj etc., the results are the same in Word etc. If you desire to reformat the English language then I can be of little help. Besides creating or finding a Font that will give you these results I have no more ideas on this. One is MText and one is DText. Quote
eldon Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 The paragraph line spacing is not selected. I said Line Spacing. You can set the line spacing to Exactly or At Least. I was not aware that Paragraph Spacing existed. Thank you for that information. DText will be different because it only is one line of text at a time. MText considers multiple lines of text and their interaction. Quote
blatz.boy Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Okay SLW210, the question didn't suggest that Mtext and Dtext are displayed differently, but refers rather to the repositioning of the text after adding these symbols. Reread to realize this. I see that in your attachment the text is arial which functions very favorably, expecially regarding the "/." However, my employer requires the use of Romans, which vertically centers the text and symbols with one another. Eldon, your comments were very useful. I see now that you were refering to the line spacing in the properties dialogue. I changed this to "exactly"and the position of the text no longer shifts. Perfect!!!! At first I thought you were refering to the paragraph line spacing within the Mtext editor. Quote

alanjt Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 There are so many larger things in AutoCAD to be annoyed about, this just seems like small potatoes. LoL Quote
nestly Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I can't replicate what the OP described. Post a sample drawing containing some MTEXT with the undesirable formatting, or at least a screencap of the issue you're having. *edit* Nevermind, I was looking at an older copy of the page and didn't see the post about Romans font. blatz.boy Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Wow...way to make my point SLW210...."text placement shifting down." Why are you so hung up on this comparison between mtext and dtext? Yes, my question was regarding mtext and not dtext. There is no repositioning at all with dtext. If you create an mtext (Romans) using letters only and accept this, then copy this text to the side, then edit this copied text to add one of these symbols, you will see what I'm experiencing on my setup. Eldon didn't seem to have a problem grasping the concept and didn't offer any snyde remarks. Changing the line spacing keeps the text in the same position. I'm sure that you are knowledgeable, but I don't appreciate your childish comments and feel that there's no place in a forum like this for that type of attitude. Alanjt, I agree with you completely...this is a small thing. However, while complicated tasks can be expected to be difficult, small things can definitely be an annoyance given enough time. Is this site only for the really tough questions? If a person feels that attempting an answer in a thread is not worthy of their time because its small potatoes, then why post anything at all. Anyway, I'm glad to get the resolution I was looking for. Thanks Eldon. Quote
