can lengthen command reduce both ends

Looking at the code, I understand the subtraction, but I'm not sure I grasp what adding the point one together does. Could you shed some light on that part?

 

Ok, consider:

 

(mapcar '- (mapcar '+ p1 p1) p2)  ==  (mapcar '- p1 (mapcar '- p2 p1))
