wrmurphy81
I started a job last June (my first ever in C3D) and have since changed a lot of styles, etc. Is it possible to replace the old template with my current one?
sinc
Yes, but you probably shouldn't overwrite one of the default templates, just in case you want to look at it again later. Instead, give your template a new name, and put it in your Templates folder (OPTIONS -> Files). Then set your new template as your QNEW template. Openantics
I have a similar question: I would like to start with a template that has no layers, no label styles, no point syles, etc. A clean template from which i can build. Unfortunately, all the templates that C3D offers (e.g. AutoCad Civil3d (Imperial)) come meavily populated heavy with these features. acad3D.dwt actually loads blank (ie no layers or label styles), but doesnt not accept point data and actually crashes c3d! Any insights on how to create a blank template, or should i continue with one of the c3d templates and filter accordingly. Cheers PS - I guess its obvious that delelting layers from the house C3D templates is not permitted bc they come pre-loaded!
sinc
Strange... I can't duplicate your issue with acad3D.dwt. I can create a new drawing, then start creating Cogo Points, and no problem. I flipped it to TOP view and 2D Wireframe visual style first... not sure if that had any effect. You could always go to Big Red C -> New -> Drawing, and select "Start from Scratch" along the top. Openantics
ugh. you are right: setting to TOP view and 2d Wireframe is required. why is it though, that when i import my cogo points (about 7k records) and choose any other visual style, C3D chokes. question: the label style for both acad3d.dwt and acad3d(imperial) are the same (ie Standard) but the display is radically different? thanks, again ps - almost fell for "start from scratch" - I like the hazing! BIGAL
If you use a blank blank template your only problem will be that everything will end up on layer 0 that is associated with Civ3d, it would probably be better to have a minimum number of styles in what you call a blank template. Maybe a point style at least, remember at any time you can drag and drop styles between drawings
Openantics
Bigal - great advice, thanks. My primary data set is position and elevation data, and so my first task is to create simple sounding maps (2D only, which includes 3 pt groups). Then follows learning to XREF in background DWGs and/or orthorectified TIFs, a title block with company data and survey metadata, a few JPEGS, followed by an occasional text box with simple text. So as you can see, I only need a few layers and was overwhelmed with all industry standards that come with the DWT files in the template folder. question: after i import my 7-10K cogo points into the three pt groups, why is it if i change from a 2d template to any of the many Visual Style Controls (e.g. Conceptual, Realistic - which i really have no need for, just futsing around with C3D) C3D hangs and chokes for minutes, sometimes working through it, often crashing??? I know my 32-bit Vista has enough ram and cpu speed, albeit on the low side - and i keep very little running in the background, but maybe my graphics card (again, with bare minimum hardware specs) is overwhelmed by the request? Very curios about this answer, as pricing for a 'gaming' computer isn't cheap! much thanks!
