pnoffke
I have a complex 2D geometry (.dwg layout) I want to wrap onto a 3D tube. Is there and easy way to do this in AutoCAD Mechanical or Inventor (prefreably AC Mech)? My machine takes a 2D flat pattern to create the part but i need to model the geometery in 3D for other puposes. I have been using Solidworks the "wrap" feature, but its inconvenient to jump between software platforms. Thanks, Paul
JD Mather
There is no easy way to "wrap" a cylinder in AutoCAD. http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?62908-Curved-text If you have Inventor - I would use Inventor. Can you attach the dwg file here?
Patrick Hughes
So, like a blanket or plate on a printing press. Actually not that difficult (for a rendering any way) but I'm not certain for the actual geometry, I'll defer to Mr. Mather on the Inventor recommendation. For a render, if that is what you are after, grab a screen capture of the geometry and save to a bitmap or Jpeg. Then add it to a material and map it to the cylinder.
