design888 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Good afternoon, I'm trying to create some 3d stairs using autocad 2009 and cannot make it. Would it be possible to guide me through the steps to accomplish this. Thank you in advance and have yourselves a great afternoon. Design888 Quote
DANIEL Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 there are many things to take into consideration when designing stairs, I think the first thing you will need to help us to understand regarding your needs are the stairs application, is this industrial, residential, emergency egress ect. ? I can probably help you through some industrial star runs if thats the case but as realatively simple as there concept is, its rather compllicated in explanation. Quote
ReMark Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 What distance, height-wise, are you covering with these stairs? What is the depth of the tread? What is the height of the riser? Is it a straight run or is a landing required? Or, is this a circular stairway? Any change of direction in the stairs? Do you have a profile for your handrail already drawn up? Is this being constructed of wood, concrete, metal, other? Quote
Bill Tillman Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 You know I've seen some pretty good stuff as far as a LISP program in the past to take this kind of input and then produce a really great 2d or even 3d model of the stairs. The trouble is that with so many variables it's hard to pin down one set of code which will work on all occurances. But as someone who designs stairs on many occassions I can tell you that AutoCAD is a great tool for doing this work, either in 2d or 3d. Here is an example of a design I'm trying to sell now for a beach front condo. So far, they love the design, but hate the price. The costs for engineering, permits, etc...really adds up. But stairs are a structural item and considered a means of emergency egress and certain steps must be taken....no pun intended. If you need some assistance on this PM me and we can talk further. DANIEL Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Bill, your hand rail does not coform to the osha requirements of my .... just teasing you, really though, i associate with what your saying as i have to design alot of stairs as well, I've gotten good enough at them that I can do them from scratch in 2d in a couple hours ...... I did have to lay down the law here and force everyone to use MY 'standard' design as what I've seen from others results in some fairly frustrating conflictions, such as not having enough space between stringer run turns to allow for handrail ...... ReMark Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Instead of all that metal had you ever given any thought to using the railings that incorporate wires? Why clutter up a nice view with a lot of metal? It is distracting. Quote
