ReMark Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I do not attend the same school as the OP. I am currently enrolled at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, Kirkland WA. Taking Architecture classes. The Educational version does create a banner. I'm blind in one eye but even I can read and understand what that message is saying. Quote
Ollie8974 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I think you read my post while i was still editing it. I am responding to J D Mather's post # 11. Quote
ReMark Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Dotsoft offers a free tool called EDUSCAN that "searches a folder (and optional nested subfolders) for drawing files containing the Educational designation." http://www.dotsoft.com/freestuff.htm Quote
JD Mather Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) The Educational version does create a banner.this is the warning the Educational version puts on all our drawings at school. Try this - go to Help>About AutoCAD>Product Information and does it say License usage type Educational Version or does it say Student Version? I have use both for many years and the Educational Version never prints the banner (with work not created in Student Version). Nor does it print the banner when going form EDU Version to Commercial license. The Student Version is free to any students (or faculty) of any age anywhere in the world for installation and use for learning purposes on individually owned (not school owned lab) computers. Jack_O'neill Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 What I said was: The watermark is simply text printed around in a few locations that says the drawing was created with an educational version. "Infected" refers to the fact that any content created with the educational version will carry that water mark into any drawing its used in even if inserted into a licensed commercial version. Thats's plainly stated, no mention of "virus". I don't know where all that stuff about "virus" came from. It does not spread to other drawings unless you insert the educational content into another drawing. If you complete your course and get a job somewhere, just keep in mind that any blocks or other drawings you create with your educational software will bring the watermark/plotstamp into your drawing if you insert it, or if you open it and work on it. It will show when you plot it. As others have said it will warn you that that is about to happen. To satify the terms of the EULA you would need to redraw any such material from scratch in a commercial license. If you forget and try to use it, as Bill and some of the others have said, expect some grief from your employer over it. The company I used to work for that I commonly refer to as the "dinosaur" makes extensive use of interns from the local colleges and we would experience a rash of this with each new batch if interns. Be among the best and brightest and don't make that mistake. edit---educational version, student version....which ever one does it. don't make the mistake regardless. That's the point of the whole discussion. Quote
Ollie8974 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 You are correct JD. I was using Educational version and Student version interchangeably. When in fact they are two separate versions. I think a lot of others have this same misconception. Quote
