redrobi2 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Just getting back into Acad at work after several years using a GIS program. I'm using Acad 2012. I want to move a block and when I pick it and start to move it several other blocks move also...... What is this feature and how do I turn it off! Quote
mimaybar Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) Can you be selected by mistake? Edited October 31, 2011 by Tiger removed link Quote
ReMark Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Maybe someone created a "Group" of all the blocks and that is why they are moving in unison. Or, the one block is actually a bunch of "nested" blocks. I don't usually recommend a person do this but let's try an experiment. Explode the block. What happens when you do this then try to move it? Quote
redrobi2 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Did not pick by mistake. And these are all single blocks from my custom tool bar. They worked fine in Acad 2011.......................... Quote
ReMark Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Does not compute. You inserted single blocks yet you try to move just one and they all move. Post the drawing. Someone here will take a look at it. Quote
CyberAngel Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Without more information, we're just guessing. Could be they're all part of an xref. Could be the screen is moving (Pan) instead of the blocks. Could be a Select Similar happened. Not likely but possible. Quote
ReMark Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 The OP mentions just the blocks moving as a single entity and nothing more (at the moment). Quote
CyberAngel Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 The OP mentions just the blocks moving as a single entity and nothing more (at the moment). As you say, that doesn't compute. There's some other factor at work. All we can do, absent more data, is spitball and conjecture. Think of it as a quiz: if you wanted to create Behavior A, how may ways could you do it? Quote
ReMark Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I wonder if he is working in model space or a paper space layout? Quote
redrobi2 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 SHE (ME) is working in model space. Actually it's more like it skews lines in the other parts. Like it's grabbing grips from the other blocks. AND it does not always do it..........very frustrating indeed Quote
ReMark Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Apologies. "She". Got it. Skews the lines? Post a sample drawing as we're just spinning our wheels here. Thanks. Quote
redrobi2 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Will do as soon as it happens again. Working on a different drawing now and it has not happened as yet. Maybe it was drawing specific...a glitch of some sort. Quote
Murph_map Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Standard "Vanilla" AutoCAd or a vertical like Civil3D or Map3D? Quote
irneb Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Just throwing an idea around: What if there were constraints placed on the block references? Could that cause them to move as one is moved? Sorry, but I've never used ACad constraints - though if they work similar to Revit's then it very well could be. As for nested blocks or groups, if you select only one block reference - do the others also become highlighted? If so it's most probably a nested (joining block) or a group. If a group you can turn group selection off in the Options dialogue: Selection tab, Bottom left group "Selection modes", check box called "Object grouping". Or of course you could remove the group through the Group command. If the other references don't select but only move together, then all I can think of are the constraints. Quote
redrobi2 Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 YES found it yesterday! It was constraints. When was this feature added? I've never used them before and can't see a reason to use them....what a pain in the .....neck. Quote
ReMark Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I think they were introduced in 2011. Well someone had to go and add them so who else has access to the drawings besides you? You know that you can delete constraints right? Parametric tab > Manage panel > Delete Constraints. Quote
redrobi2 Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Yes and turned them off so the pesty things are not there to begin with Thanks for the help Quote
irneb Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I think they were introduced in 2011. Well someone had to go and add them so who else has access to the drawings besides you? There is of course that "nifty" (or perhaps infamous???) feature called "auto-constrain" - bloody painfull if you ask me. I see it in the same light as the AutoAnnoScale (i.e. in some hellish red haze!) Quote
