Converting layer names to point names or comments

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of creating 3D points (as an overlay) on some laser scanned data (using RiScan, it's just 3d dimensional data, with a northing, easting and RL) and unfortunately the only export option is to export to .dxf... Which is fine but when I export, the information has the point ID as the layer name.

I am aiming at getting this data into another program to analyse and it needs the point ID or name to be my annotation, as opposed to the layer.

So what I need is a way of converting the names of each individual points layer, to the point ID.

Thanks guys!

we also have a current version of Civil cad if that is any help.

Currently we're trying to find a way of simply exporting all information about a point, so that we can edit the formatting in a .csv file.

The only .csv vba routines I can find work only with point info and can't do layers.

Is there any way to simply export everything to .csv? I'm surprised autocad 2010 can't as a built in feature

I'm not sure that I fully understand the situation; perhaps the DATAEXTRACTION command will be of use to you?

If not, then the RENAME command may offer some resolution, presuming the layer names have a common naming convention. This command accepts wild cards.

Do you have Civilcad or CivilCAD, which are two different programs with the same name? With the former it would be easy to do. I can't remember the exact terminology although in the Enquiry menu you'll be able to produce a report containing the eastings, northings and r.l's of the selected points (which you can then copy and paste into Excel).
