begginer question on displaying information in profile view

Hi there,

I am really new to Civil so this might sound soo dumb but I really could not find the answer in Civil manual or on forums so here comes my question.

I have a surface, an alignement and a profile (view). How do I display other information on my profile view than just the alignment? My road centerline is the alignement, but I need to show also where catastral boundary lines end, utilities go etc. etc - it is all on separate layers in polylines.

Can anyone please help?!?

Thanks a lot in advance,

The recommended procedure for showing utility lines in a profile is to define them as pipes. You can create a single pipe that represents (for instance) a sewer line and give it elevations at either end. Right-click on the pipe, pick "add to profile," and click on your profile view. You'll need to define a style for the pipe that shows the cross section rather than the full length.

Don't worry about "sounding dumb." There is a steep learning curve for C3D, and we're all still learning.

Ditto here; Heck, I'll be needing some help myself, whenever my projects permit me to begin actually working with C3D. Due to our work load, I've had to cross-train on Microstation+GEOPAK because the contracts required those apps instead. :(

Hi guys, thanks for tip!

It works, my line is now visible in plan view. I also tried it with feature line (just drawing a short line on surface that runs perpendicular to the alignment) and it can also be shown on the profile. What's the difference between these two in my case if I only want to show stuff in the profile view?

And there is my other question : how to I mark what's-what in profile view? I found Add Label -> Note feature.

This works fine but i need to input manually all the descriptions (my alignment crosses, say, catastral boundary, a few times) - is there a way not to describe each crossing point manually but assingn certain label to a polyline, so that it is displayed every time the pipe (or feature line) is displayed in profile?

What I do is fill in a definition for the pipe. I can then define a label style that uses the definition for any given pipe as its text. That way the label is the same in each profile, and I can update it in one place if necessary.
