I'm just curious as to what the purpose was of the cycle command changing from just using the "ctrl" key to having to use the "shift" & "spacebar" in some strange manner?

It gave the user more options when it came to customizing AutoCAD's keyboard shortcuts?

Why do you ask?

Why do you ask?

Just curious. I've been curious for a while now, but only thought now to throw the question out there. I have yet to encounter other commands that use the "ctrl" key in any other manner so I guess I was wondering what else autocad had planned for that key when using a "move" or "copy" command, etc.

I suppose if what you say is true that's good enough for me. I do not do any customizing so it won't affect me. I just wish I had the the "ctrl" key back for the purpose I used to use it for.

No big deal.

Thanks.

And what purpose was that?

Consult your AutoCAD Help file re: Shortcut Keys for further information. Remember, you have the option to customize the CUI.

In order to "cycle" through objects as noted above.

And what key combo is required now to do the same thing? Ctrl + ???

I'm lost as well. What exactly do you mean by "cycle" command? The only thing I can think of is cycling insertion points of a Dynamic Block, and I have never known to use Shift or Spacebar to cycle a Dynamic Block. In Revit, the Tab key is what cycles mouse-over object selections. So.... I'm lost as to what the O.P. means by "cycle". What exactly are you "cycling"?

I think the O.P. is referring to 'cycling' through a number of objects which which are over lying each other to select the right one.

The sequence used to be "Ctrl + left click with the cursor over the objects" and "return" when the required object is highlighted. And is now "Shift + space bar + left click with the cursor over the objects" and "return".

Ahhhhh, yes. Makes sense. Forgot about that.

Still, that's kind of a weird question. This is CADTutor.net, not Autodesk.com. This is a forum in which you can gripe about such changes though, like why in the world CO is copy and C is circle. Boggles my mind. C for copy and CR for circle!!!

DotSoft explains it this way.

"Object Cycling has been around since R13, but isn't a widely known ability, perhaps because it's not a command. Whenever you are at the 'Select Objects' prompt and have overlapping objects, simply hold down the Ctrl key as you pick a location. AutoCAD will cycle through the objects at that location, highlighting each one until you accept one and move on."

C = Circle

CO = Copy

Everyone needs to get on board with that. LOL

I'm ready for you big boy.:P Bring your shovel too because we're having a snowstorm overnight.

You want ham with those eggs or bacon?:lol:

I'm with TF...not that anyone was asking! C = COPY and 0 = Circle (that's zero BTW). I use COPY way more than I use CIRCLE. Dumb that C is default alias for CIRCLE! (This might make an interesting chat topic! What are the most/least favorite or used aliases?)

Isn't it possible to customize Autocad so that: C:Copy and CR: circle?

Until reading this post, I thought it is possible but I didn't do in order to respect Autodesk Engineers:lol:

Of course. My PGP files reflects my gripe. So technically it doesn't matter but it's principle!! Its all about principle!! haha

How about CC for copy as in "carbon copy"?

Posted

CTRL key is now used for sub-object selection. It's kind of funny why they choose not to try to find other key for that. Like tab in Revit or simply choose from drop down menu in Fusion.

I go with CC for copy btw. It's faster to press the same key twice :D. I use it since 2002 ;)

I use ZZ for zoom extend btw... :rofl:
