thereclinerman5
i am trying to find out how to use autocad to nest objects for cutting on a cnc machine. it would require a lengthy discussion and i dont know if this is a appropriate forum for it. if someone could point me in the right direction, i would appreciate it. thanks
ReMark
You don't use AutoCAD to do nesting. You buy an add-on piece of software that will give you the ability to do nesting within AutoCAD. Example: AutoNEST. http://www.cadstudio.cz/en/autonest.asp Two other programs you can look at are ProNest and SigmaNEST. I think the topic has been discussed before. Check the Similar Threads listed below or do a search on the word "nesting".
thereclinerman5
thanks for the reply. i have used autocad to help nest because i can rotate, mirror, copy, and move objects. the problem i am having is maintaining the space between the objects. i thought that could be done with constraints, however i am not that proficient in autocad. i was trying to add the spacing to the objects by offsetting the shape by the amount of the spacing i needed and then moving the objects to the correct place. the nesting programs i looked at are expensive and do not offer the fine control that autocad does. have to keep playing with it. lol thanks
ReMark
You're using AutoCAD to mimic nesting that's all you're doing. That might work for one part but what if you had three or four different parts that you wanted to maximize the amount you could cut from one sheet and at the same time minimize waste. AutoCAD would fail miserably at that task. You'd waste so much time and effort it would have been cheaper to buy a nesting program.

ReMark
Never a good idea to post one's personal email info in a public forum. You're just asking for a lot of spam. Yes, everybody wants something for nothing. Not always possible though. Have you tried an Internet search for a free nesting program that will work with AutoCAD? ReMark
Astra S-Nesting is shareware. You might give that a try. http://astra-snesting.download-569-100625.programsbase.com/ Another option (not exactly free) is MyNest. http://www.mynesting.com/ A low cost alternative called NestLibOnline. https://www.nestlibonline.com/
