Geoffers
I have not yet grasped the difference between 'solids' and 'masses'. If I draw a solid, then another intersecting it I can then subtract one from the other. However if I draw similar masses I cannot subtract one from the other; why is this? I have tried converting as mass to a 3 object.....but ? Geoffers
Cad64
Masses? Are you talking about Meshes?
Geoffers
no, although it should perhaps be 'massing'...
Geoffers
screensolidmassingcrop.jpg ...don't know if I have done this correctly for screen dump.. tool palettes shows 'massing', tool bars show 'solids' and solid editing ... Geoffers
ok, I am beginning to answer my own question: in that masses have to be added or subtracted by right clicking and using 'boolean'; which it seems are different routines to the similar ones on the 'solids toolbar'... ...so, still, what is the difference between 'solids' and 'massing'? Secretagdan
I do not have that version of Auto CAD, but one way to find out what sort of object it is by using the 'LIST' command. Using this will list the properties of the object you have drawn. A solid would list as '3DSOLID' when you list it. Either 'Masses' are something new in 2009, or the buttons on your tool pallet just makes a number of common solids that one could make. If it is the latter, then there would be no difference.
