Lt Dan's legs Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Is there a maximum amount of tabs you can have? Quote
nestly Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 I think it was around 255 years ago, I don't know if it's been changed since then? Quote
nestly Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 I think it ("it" being the the maximum number of Layout tabs allowable in AutoCAD) was around 255 (a few) years ago (around 2007, which would be applicable to your version of AutoCAD) Quote
ReMark Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Model space tab = 1 (max). Layout tabs = 255 (max). Saw it on the AutoDesk website. nestly wins. Don Pardo, what do we have for today's winner? Why ReMark, nestly wins an all expense paid trip to AutoDesk headquarters where he will be the honored guest of the programming department. Just having some fun nestly. Quote

Are you suggesting that Autodesk will be picking up the TAB? Quote
Lt Dan's legs Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 I know what you meant. Just pointing out, It sounds like you are stating that "it hasn't changed in 255 years". I didn't know I was poking at a beehive Thanks for the answer Quote
irneb Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 I think it was around 255 years ago, I don't know if it's been changed since then?It does sound that way doesn't it? Wow! I didn't know that ACad was available in 1757 ... that pre-dates even Babbage's Difference engine (commonly thought of as the "first" computer) doesnt it? Was that wooden tabs? Quote
ReMark Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Having come here from the future I can attest to the fact the number of layout tabs does not change for 255 years. Quote
profcad Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 The maximum number of paper space layouts that you can create in AutoCAD is 256. Command: LAYOUT Enter layout option [Copy/Delete/New/Template/Rename/SAveas/Set/?] : n Operation cancelled, maximum number of layouts (256) would be exceeded. Quote

Does it blow your mind to think that some of the people that come here may be Cyberdyne employees using AutoCAD to design the T-800? Quote

irneb Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Will you be needing more than that? OK! Enough fooling around! If you really need more than 255 tabs, then the solution is XRef: Say you've got the drawing A.DWG and you've got 255 tabs already setup. Now create a blank drawing B.DWG, xref A into it at 0,0,0 (WCS) in model space. Now you've got an extra 255 tabs to play with as if they're in the original A.DWG. Rinse and repeat for even more! OK....... no more drinking that diet drink it messes with the brain. BUT this got me thinking and I need to try the max layout tabs in MAP3D seeing how a MAPBOOK creates layout tabs if it is limited to just 255. Quote

You keep trying to include the one and only model tab in the count. Quote
danellis Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Will you be needing more than that? I've certainly worked on drawings that feel like they had waaaay more than that! Especially when all that needs doing is copying a rev-note across lol Drawings like that (conveyance plans if you're interested) do suggest to me how 255 tabs wouldn't be enough. dJE Quote
Murph_map Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 OK tried the mapbook feature in Map3D to create more than 255 tabs. The mapbook feature allows you take a create a grid of a map (dwg) and break it up into seperate layouts. Using a grid of 20x20 for 400 tabs it create 400 layouts but only 256 tabs. So you can have more paperspace layouts than tabs with Map3dD's Mapbook or the Shhet Set Manager on steroids. Quote
