Changing Zoom Level to view entire drawing

Hello, I am fairly new to AutoCad. I need to make a drawing that is 500'x100'. Everytime I make the 500' line I cant zoom out far enough to see the entire line. Is there a way make the zoom level farther out so I can see the entire line. I have tried changing the scale, to no avail. I hope i am making sense. I can't zoom out far enough to see a 500' line. What can I do?
