DonnyBrook Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Hello all. I am extremely new to AutoCAD 2012. I haven't used the software since CAD R10 back in the stone age so this is a huge learning experience for me. I am trying to duplicate a "simple" drawing assignment. (Please see docx attached) There are no limits given, no scale and no units ..... On top of that dilemma I'm not sure if i need to use the fillet command to make the curved section joining the two circles. I'm not even sure what this object is but the book says to "duplicate it" thank you for any input ... new guy object1.docx Quote
f700es Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Well don't worry about limits this is old terminology. As for scale always draw one to one or full scale. As for the units the grid shows you how big to draw them. Just count the grids Quote
f700es Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 You can always turn the grid on (F7) and turn grid snap on as well (F9). Quote
DonnyBrook Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Ok, that's easy enough but how do I actually duplicate this object? I've tried the fillet command and I can't get the "S" shape joining the 2 circles. I have created the circles on the right easily and then copied them and moved them to the left hand side (as per the indicated grid) but I'm uncertain as to the commands involved to create the "S" curve to join the circles together ..... and in proportion to the indicated grids on the diagram. thanks for the quick reply too! ReMark Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 That "S shape' as you refer to it can be created using the CIRCLE command and the TTR (tan, tan, radius) option. Need a hint? Quote
DonnyBrook Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 ReMark I would love a hint pls. I'm running out of hair to pull out.... Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Hang on, I'll be right back with a visual. Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) The Circle command using the TTR option, Mirror and the Trim command is all it takes. Gotta run. Catch ya later. Edited September 23, 2012 by ReMark Quote
DonnyBrook Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 ReMark, this isn't really an accurate representation of what I'm trying to duplicate. In my example the circles that I'm trying to "marry" with the "S" curve are one circle half inside the other. (top pic is what I need to re-create and bottom is what I have so far) I tried the TTR but I can't get it to work ..... it asks for a radius and I have no idea what it would be. Thanks Quote
the ber Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 In your left view the large circle should actually be an ellipse. The long axis is 6 units long, and the short axis is 4 units long. Quote
