Hello,

Hope I am putting this in the right place.

I have a dxf file of a 3d model (cant attach as it exceeds the size limit) that I need to have put in a 2D dwg file. basically I need to flatten it to make a top and front view of the model.

I haven't work in 3d in some time and never worked with dxf files, so I'm not even sure this is possible. I tried opening the dxf in auto cad, but it doesn't seem to find the file..I cant see dxf extensions.

any help with this would be appreciated.. thanks in adavance

thanks will try as soon as i get home...

Be aware that Flatshot only works on 3D solids. If it is 3D faces it will not work.

So what would work on a 3D face? I am not sure how it is draw, I have just been asked to see if i can get it to a 2D schematic

once open in autocad you can either use FLATSHOT or SOLPROF

Please forgive me, but it is a DWF file not DXF..Is it the same process???

you will need to download a third party software that converts DWF to DWG first

You can have a 3D dwf? Looks like you can, did not know that.

Insert DWF as underlay and trace it.

This would be last resort if i cant get it any other way.

ANyone have a good free program they recommend for converting dwf to dwg?

Probably no free ones but I am sure you can download a demo of one and use it enough to get what you need finished.

Thanks, Hopefully I can get it to work
