xr309 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Every time I open ACAD 2012, a folder named Autodesk is added to my Explore favorites. This happened with other versions as well. Some how, it stopped happening for a long time. Now it is back again. Does anyone know how to turn this annoyance off? Quote
genmech Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Right click on the folder and select remove. Quote
xr309 Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 Please read posts carefully before responding. I did not ask how to remove a folder from the Favorites. I've asked how to stop AutoCAD from adding the folder in the first place. Quote
irneb Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 When you refer to the "favourites" are you referring to the "Favourites" folder in the ACad file dialog, or the Favourites folder in windows explorer (Win7-64bit)? The 2 are different things. For me the Autodesk folder is only in the one in the ACad file dialog, it never appears in the explorer one. And simply deleting the Autodesk folder from there solves it - since it's only created at install time. Are you seeing something else? Quote
xr309 Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 Neither, actually. As stated, it is in the Explore Favorites. The Windows program used for file management. Running XP/32bit. BTW, I haven't installed any recent updates either. Quote
SLW210 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Try disabling InfoCenter.. see THIS. Other than that, I would guess it is an Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer issue. Quote
RobDraw Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Please read posts carefully before responding. Wow, too much coffee today? Quote

Thank you for your efforts. I might try the MSI when I've got some time. Wow, too much coffee today? Wow yourself - Double troll action in a single post? I didn't think this would be a problem in this forum. Genmech either didn't read my post clearly, or is being a smart-ass. So it became necessary to explain, to A) clarify, B) prevent further smart-assery or thread-misdirection. That is all. Please note well: Nothing further required here. Quote
SLW210 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I tried at home (during lunch) on XP with AutoCAD 2000i and once deleted from favorites, it never came back. Seems it only loads upon install of AutoCAD, not sure what you have going on. Did you recently do a Windows update or anything similar? Quote

Regardless of your intent, clarity, and anti-smart-assery, you're being received as less than polite (not genmech, nor robdraw, you), which is something not generally tolerated in _this_ forum. Cad64 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Genmech either didn't read my post clearly, or is being a smart-ass. I think genmech just simply misread your question or didn't fully understand the problem. I don't think he was being a smart-ass at all. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. My $0.02 Touché. But I respectfully disagree that what you're saying somehow doesn't apply to genmech and robdraw, exactly and equally. I don't frequent forums at all, and forgot my salt. I also forgot that misinterpretation is the norm on these things. I should not have responded. My OP remains free of any blatant tone or less-than-polite-ness. What happened after that has a shared responsibility. I do take responsibility for my contribution, and apologize for it. Once again, sorry to all. Let's have a better rest of the day... Quote

Dana W Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I just never bothered deleting the first folder. Didn't even know it was there until reading this thread. I stopped using IE some time ago anyway. Does anybody know how to get google chrome to stop loading CadTutor.net into my Favorites bar? Quote
irneb Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I just never bothered deleting the first folder. Didn't even know it was there until reading this thread. I stopped using IE some time ago anyway. Actually it's not IE (as in Internet Explorer), it's Windows Explorer (as in double-clicking the My Computer icon on the Desktop). But yeah I'm with you on this. Have to use IE at work since they don't allow us to install whatever we please, it's a total pain in the a$$ for nearly every forum there is. I miss my FF ! Does anybody know how to get google chrome to stop loading CadTutor.net into my Favorites bar? ... no ... except perhaps ... Don't visit CT so much Anyhow, back to the OP: OK, XP had a slightly different folder set than 7 has. So probably it's Explorer's Favourites folder is the same one used in ACad's file dialog. On mine this folder is: [C:\Users\Irne\Favorites] ... but that's Win7, it would probably be somewhere else on XP. But notice that 7's got another Favourites folder: Quote
SLW210 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The Favorites folder in Windows Explorer is the SAME as the Favorites in Internet Explorer on XP, delete in one and it is deleted in the other. Like stated, I cannot duplicate this, with AutoCAD 2000i it only creates the Favorites upon INSTALL of the program. So I would guess AutoCAD 2012 is operating differently than my AutoCAD 2000i and for some reason is recreating the Favorites folder. If not InfoCenter try Options>System and deselect "Use online help from Autodesk website when available". Quote
