snakebite729
Hi, AutoCAD LT 2013 runs very slowly sometimes. Happens almost daily. Although rare, it sometimes even gets to a point where it freezes just from entering a command. I have tried having hardware acceleration both on and off and it runs much better with it on, but it still happens. I've tried REGENALL and that helps maybe 20% of the time. The rest of the time I restart AutoCAD and that only works some of the time as well. I've even tried restarting my computer on some occasions and that seems to work sometimes too, but still doesn't fix it every time. Everyone else in my office uses the same computer and OS and has the same version of AutoCAD, but none have experienced the same issues, so I am unsure what it could be. The drawings are relatively simple, with each dwg file consisting of 3 - 6 plans and any where from 10 - 200 details/sections. Everything is 2D and drawn in model space, then each sheet of the document is created in paper space as a separate layout tab with a title block and a few viewports on each sheet. No Xrefs or large attached images, just one small image in the title block. Known system specs: OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit Computer: Toshiba Satellite Notebook CPU: Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.30 GHz RAM: 8GB Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7670M Monitor: 17" Laptop Display + Samsung SyncMaster S27B550 Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
ReMark
Is hardware acceleration enabled? Is your connection to the InfoCenter (a.k.a. - the CommCenter) enabled? If so disable it. What anti-virus program are you running? Have you tried disabling it and then running AutoCAD? Does your laptop use a SSD or a platter drive? If it is a platter drive what is the speed (5400 or 7200 rpm)?
snakebite729
Hi, Hardware acceleration is on. I disabled the infocenter, will see if that makes a difference. The antivirus is microsoft security essentials. I'll disable that as well and see how it goes. It's a 5400rpm platter drive. I'll let you know how it goes after using it a bit with that stuff disabled Thanks
ReMark
Try turning hardware acceleration off and see if that makes a difference. I run MS Essentials and find it does not target my AutoCAD files so I think you are good there. A 5400 rpm platter is slooooooooooow. Not sure why they are even offered any more. snakebite729
A couple of days later and i have actually noticed a difference. And to think it was as simple as disabling the infocenter. Still gets laggy every now and then, but nowhere near as often or as bad. With hardware acceleration off it is slower all the time. And, I must agree on the topic of 5400rpm, all my drives at home are 7200rpm with SATA3. The only way to do it. Unless of course you have a ton of cash and can afford SSD
ReMark
Or a ton of cash and can afford one of the 10,000 or even 15,000 rpm drives. Win7 I see. You could try shutting off some of the bells and whistles. Have you downloaded and installed service pack 1.1 yet?
snakebite729
That would be nice haha. I already have Aero turned off and have been running it pretty basic without any fancy options. I was unaware that there was a service pack 1.1? How do i go about getting it?
ReMark
Service packs can be downloaded from the AutoDesk website. Just make sure you download the correct one since there are 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I don't understand why your computer should be having such a difficult time running LT. It doesn't add up. Are you experiencing problems with any other program?
