Insert a block and it is disappearing!

Hi All,

Haven't been here for a long time!

Today I faced to a dodgy situation!

One of my workmates asked me for help on the following:

The file is too big to post it here so I do my best to explain if you have further questions please ask.

Basically, whenever you want to insert a block from outside of this drawing to it you can see it on the screen but after insertion it is disappearing!

+ There is no frozen layer

+ It happens on Modelspace and Paperspace both

+ It happens just on the blocks that you want to insert from outside

+ I used Design Centre to insert a block same issue occurs. The block is not inserted in to the drawing as a hidden object because it is on the Purge list but you can find it on the Insert Block window dropdown menu and when you want to insert it from there again same issue happens!

I guess there might be an AutoCAD variable is playing with us here that somebody accidentally changed it.

+ When you use the Quickselect you cannot find any of those blocks on the drawing as well

Cheers

Ali

the only thing I can think of is is it being exploded on insertion? I know you would still see the bits but it wouldn't appear in the drop down list.

what happens if you create a block within the drawing (just a line but with the name of the block to be inserted) and you then use design centre to redefine it?

If you believe that a SYSTEM VARIABLE may be the culprit, you could restore the default system variable settings.

If there are intentional customizations of the system variable settings, however,

I would suggest creating a .SVF (System Variable File) of the current settings before

reverting to the default settings, lest they be lost.

At least that way you may be able to determine if it really is a system variable issue.

Have you tried zooming extents, and made sure that you are not in a saved view which may have been clipped?

How can I change the system variable to default?

And If I change it to default I assume it will affect just this drawing not the default setting of AutoCAD, am I right?

Posted

Did you do a zoom > extents afterwards to see if the block was inserted but at a very far distance from where you intended?

What is the source of these "outside" blocks?

I assume you are working in metric units. Are the blocks done to metric units as well or imperial?

Hey Terminator,

How r u going?

Yes I did the Zoom All, it is not there. The source is another dwg file and the blocks are in Metric as well.

Did you draw the blocks that are being inserted from this other drawing or did the drawing come from another company or individual?

Can you post a sample block (DWG) file we can test?

Posted

Sample Block.dwg

This is the block I want to insert in to the main file.

I cannot attach the main file it is too big.

currious.

Inserts with no trouble here - BUT!!!!

If you double click on it to open it in BEDIT it looks completely different. That is until you zoom in to the TL corner and find the item on screen. Now exit (saving the block) and the rest of the block arrives.

Sorry Dave but I cannot follow up what you said. On mine everything is fine regarding to the sample block.

The sample block is perfectly fine and I can insert it anywhere in other drawings but I cannot insert it to that specific Main corrupted file.

Also, It is not about this block. It happens on every single block that you want to insert on that Main file so I am pretty sure it is something to do with that main file!

Have you purged and audited this "main" file?

No problem inserting the block here although I did notice that if I run BEDIT it actually lists two blocks not one.

your supplied file is certainly mis-behaving here. However as you are happy with it I will leave it alone. Without access to the problem drawing I can't comment any further so I'll leave you alone and wait to hear how it all ends up.

I could not reproduce your results. Which block (there are two) did you open with BEDIT?

OK, I inserted the sample drawing thinking it was the block, not a drawing containing the block.

This is what I have!

It is different on what you have!

I really don't know what is going on!

As I said it is nothing to do with the block we have a problem with the Main file I think.

The 90Slide Bolt is the Block!

I don't have such a thing as "Sample Drawing" as a block.

I would suggest that you execute the command line version of the Purge command ( -purge). Purge Regapps first. Repeat the command and then do a Purge > All. Next run the Audit command and let AutoCAD fix any errors. Test a block insertion.

If the test fails then you have two options. 1) WBlock out the drawing to a new file or 2) use the DXFOUT / DXFIN procedure. One of the two should clean out any gremlins affecting your main drawing. Test and report back here with the results.

Dude,

Thanks for your reply. Now I can see the block I want to insert up to the last click of inserting process but funny enough when I insert the block (Last Click), it inserts another block with totally different name!!!

I think this file is severely corrupted.
