boki Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hi, I have been working in AutoCad for 2 years now, and I generally use it to do my homework or whatever. The question I have is about scale and dimensions. I have a drawing that I need to print out on 50x70cm paper, and the scale is 1/50. I know the basics of using layouts but I'm just more comfortable using the model tab. I thought that I could just scale my drawing by a factor of 2. 1/100x2 = 1/50 But then the dimensions have to be updated as well, so they are 2x larger than they should be. So if I have a room that is 300x300cm, it is shown as a 600x600 room. I remember our teacher showing us a way to update dimensions after scaling a drawing by a certain factor to revert them to their previous value, but I can't remember how to do it. Can someone help me out? Quote
ReMark Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 You could try applying a scale factor in your dimension style. Look on the "Fit" tab. In the future you might want to consider using annotative scaling for your dimensions and text. Quote
the ber Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 annotative scaling can bite you, there are some pitfalls. have a look here for some ideas: http://docs.autodesk.com/ACD/2010/ENU/AutoCAD%202010%20User%20Documentation/index.html?url=WS1a9193826455f5ff1bb1a0510dab2fb04a-7f60.htm,topicNumber=d0e110320 Quote
ReMark Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Annotative scaling is not something you do without first reading up on it then practicing. It has its pros and cons just like any other method. Another option is to put your dimensions and text in your paper space layout. Try each method and decide what is best for you. Quote
