My evaluation of XP Pro, Win 7, and Win 8 Pro

Ok.. Here goes..

As some may know my Win 7 machine was stolen after I only had it after a few weeks. But I obtained the 7 the same time I wiped my 32bit XP Cad Station in order to put my new 64bit Windows 8 in operation.

I started out writing out all the technical data when I installed the 8 machine...then started comparing it to the 7 machine. Well the data and the memory funneled into each OS were about the same speed (seeing at the time each machine had 4g of ram and one had a mediocre video card while the laptop had an inboard). Each performed pretty much identical to ones opponent. But the XP Pro machine (32 bit) was like a little ole lady in a wheel chair vs. a Shelby 500 in comparison to the Win 8 machine (64 bit).

Now to get on with the OS....

Windows 7 is what Microsoft wanted out of Vista but it was still limited to the 32 bit users...so they pretty much had a choke collar on them and in which, they released a inferior product to please the customer base. With 7 they had to put their foot down and start manufacturing new code. They couldn't continue along the line of Windows 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, Ce, Me, you, daddy, granny, sunny, 2000, NT, XP ...etc

They got and are still getting a lot of grief from people that cannot use their old 16 bit software..(me too..I still have those I love to use..LOL) They had to say enough is enough if they were going to progress and compete with competition.

In Windows 7.....What they wanted was a new feel and with a familiar structure which they did very well. They give us a very secure, solid, 64 bit OS that was still user friendly to us at the AT level. We were tired of the "user friendly" part of the OS and they started letting us manage that (Well done....if they would only let us have control of the code....LOL)

Along comes Windows 8...they jumped the gun a-bit ...they may have alienated some of us a bit. They turned a good "working" platform" into a school girls application. Not once in all their advertisement did they point their object of progression to business or high end users. All they care about is those freakin' tiles...LOL.

But with that said, once you get used to it and Microsoft did put in a good amount of (not enough yet) adjustment that I haven't really gotten used to it.

I had a buddy reply on here a few weeks back who said, "you will like it at first...(Windows 8 ) " Well I do and I have adjusted my setting so that my production has even gotten better than with XP, and 7. i.e....like the adjustable tabs which you can turn on or off, I can have my notices pop-up for a email, calendar, weather...etc without having to have these apps running. Hardly ever do I go over to that "tabs" page, but it is only one click away to get email, stock, notes, calendar, pictures...

As far as the AutoCAD goes, I cant really compare a xp 32 bit machine against 64 bit 7 or 8 but to say all of my slowness I ever complained about is gone!! This thing is a speed demon now with no stalls.....I am going to put in another 16g of RAM next week....then I will tell you something big...!!!!!!

It did take me a while to get used to it...but Windows 8 Pro has sold me...I like it!!:excited:

Well I am tired of typing and dont know if my grammar and spelling is correct...correct me please..

Thanks guys

Taylor

All in all I am generally pleased. I am running a 3 gigahertz AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core, 4g of ram...going with 16g as soon it arrivives from UPS in a few days, then going with a better video card than the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT I am currently running

Your evaluation seems to be lacking in detail. Mind fleshing it out a bit more? Pros and cons. New features that impress or depress you. It's not all about the tiles, terminology or the speed. Do a good job and maybe PC-World will offer you a guest column in the next issue.

BTW..as long as you stay off that "tile page" you'll be ok. For every ones info, go to the bottom left, right click...you can get everywhere from here. (except the power button button...thats why I assigned it to my keyboard)

Par from the Tile, are there any other annoynances that really get to you?

Also, you said there was going to be something big...?

The email really sucks...I installed a separate e-mail client. After you shut off all the tiles that I dont care for; like I like the weather and news tile, then everything seems ok. As for something big I'm going to a 32g motherboard. Going to see how much that helps. But stepping up to that new 650 2g card really helped a lot!!!!
