neophoible Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Disregard I just saw the two replies and that will definitely work... Thank you all so much... have you tried nukecad's method? I had to do that for the R1 blend on my drawing as no centre is given. Both eldon and I gave you a way to create the circle without using the TTR option. Did you skip over those posts? Notice that he did notice and thank everyone. Quote
neophoible Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Well you might want to point someone at admin to the AutoDesk website so they can see what they are missing (besides the money they have already shelled out). Yeah, it would seem free would be the way to go, assuming they're watching the money the right way. As far as challenging drawings go any good technical drafting book, and we could name a handful here, will give you and your students all the challenges they can handle and then some. I'm quite interested in this at the moment due to my own instructional situation. And if certain sources would be cheaper, that would certainly be of interest as well. So, please list away. And thanks in advance. Quote
ReMark Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) Yes, I am aware that the OP finally saw our responses and successfully completed the drawing. When I have a moment I will dig out my list which has four books on it. The list..... Basic Technical Drafting by Spencer Engineering Drawing by French Technical Drawing by Giesecke (frequently recommended by JD Mather) Technical Graphics Communication by Bertoline & Wiebe Edited February 15, 2013 by ReMark Added book list Quote
dbroada Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Notice that he did notice and thank everyone.Thank you for pointing that out neophoible. I tend to only look at the most recent posts and not go back through a thread. Quote
Auggy512 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 Engineering Drawing and Design is the book Quote
ReMark Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 So just what changes have you instituted to make the program more challenging? Quote
Auggy512 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 Basically I decided to purchase misc items that I thought the kids would like to model. I have first year kids design a 5 piece wooden puzzle using 27 3/4" blocks. They start from the ground up with sketches, then drawings, then prototyping, and finally packaging. This then starts them into 3D drafting. When they finish that then they must market it with packaging and marketing. 2nd year students will have to design a USB drive with a second function. This includes the enire design process from beginning to end and they must then present to our administrators. 3rd year students design and build the solidworks chopper and must render along with a gallardo lambo 4th year students must present a tangible object to our assistant principal that they design for her desk, then they jump into modeling a 9 cyclinder radial engine from nothing but drawings. ReMark Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Sounds interesting enough. What about the students who would rather be studying architecture? Quote
Auggy512 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 When the school bought the package they wanted the emphasis to be on mechanical rather than architectural... I have no choice in that matter... And now I have been tasked with setting up a 4 year Robotics Academy here at my school which starts next year. Let me tell you that there isn't any curriculum out there for that... Quote
ReMark Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'm not sure I would agree with that last statement. We have a robotics program at our middle school level. Quote
Auggy512 Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 no not saying no curriculum for classes but not an academy... Lego has all kinds of stuff out there but I am going up a level to VEX Robotics... Quote
JD Mather Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Let me tell you that there isn't any curriculum out there for that... In addition to Vex, you might check out First Robotics competition (started by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway Human Transporter and many other things). Quote
neophoible Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Thank you for pointing that out neophoible. I tend to only look at the most recent posts and not go back through a thread. No problem. Just wanted to make sure the appreciation connected there. Thanks for the list, ReMark, and to everyone for a very interesting, even intriguing thread! Robotics--great idea for that age! Quote
