scottlan Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I consider myself a novice at AutoCAD and I do know a little about this program to get drawings and projects completed, but I have yet to figure out my problem I am addressing in this thread. I am familiar with freeze/thaw, etc. when needing to work on a certain layer. Here is my problem... I have a viewport set up in my layout, and I am able to turn on/off and freeze/thaw certain layers in either ms or ps, but other layers will not do either, regardless of what space I am in. I have tried in the current drawing and the xref's that are in the drawing. Does anyone have some ideas as to why I am having these issues? Maybe the linetype or lineweight is preventing me from seeing the changes I am making, although I am doing everything correct? i have tried this, too, but no changes can be seen. Maybe I need to try more linetypes/weights... Thanks for the help. Scott Quote
jaylo23 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Are the layers that you are trying to change part of an xref or block? Quote
scottlan Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 They are part of an xref, and I tried manipulating (thawing, etc) the particular layers in the xref, thinking that might be the issue I am having. Quote
jaylo23 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Are you getting an prompt or error when trying to change the layers, if so what is it? Quote
scottlan Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 No, no prompt... I am really confused... I just tried turning off all layers except for the layer of interest, but even that layer is not visible in the viewport, but is visible in ms. Does the number of layers have an affect on which layers will be visible in a layout/viewport? Quote
jaylo23 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Sorry for all the questions im just trying to narrow down the possible culprits. Is the entity in the xref that you are trying to freeze part of an block? Quote
scottlan Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 No need to apologize for asking questions, I appreciate your effort to try and help. The layer is not part of a block within the xref Quote
jaylo23 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Im trying to recreate your problem so i can identify the reason but im not able to. i have no problem freezing or turning off layers of an xref. I would say audit and purge, close the drawing, re-open and see if that helps, but im sure that one of the cad wizards here will get it sorted out for you. If i figure it out i will let you know though. Quote
wannabe Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 There is a little padlock symbol next to the layer icon. Does it look the same as all the other layers. If it's not in breach of your copyright or any other company regulation you could always post the drawing. Quote
Sarah H Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 When you attach an xref it comes in on a layer, if you select the xref you'll see which layer it's on. If you freeze that layer the entire xref will freeze. You need to only freeze the layers that you want to hide, and UNfreeze the layer that the xref is on. I like to put each xref on a different layer [xgnd, x1 etc] but some like to have them all on layer 0. You can change the layer the xref is on just the same as you do any other object. Quote
Dipali Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 No, no prompt... I am really confused... I just tried turning off all layers except for the layer of interest, but even that layer is not visible in the viewport, but is visible in ms. Does the number of layers have an affect on which layers will be visible in a layout/viewport? no of layers have no effect. there is extra frreze in layer manager which is viewport specific. so drop down the layer list while in viewport & check if it has that freeze on.
