ONeillJols
Hi all, I have a pretty stupid (maybe) question for you: Is there a "simple" way to convert a 2d immage (photoshop file) to a 3d solid? Basically I have a 2D immmage (a discus of sorts) that has geometrical shapes "cut out of it" (Immagine a circle with a triangle "missing" inside) and I'd like to create a evenly high discus with a triangle hole in it).. Let's say a coin that misses a triangle in it's mid. Clearely I could draw a circle (surface) extrude it, then create a triangle (surface) and extrude that one and subtract one from the other, but since the immage I hve is a bit more complex I just wanted to know if there is a quicker/easier way. Also I have a text in my discus, and drawing a text surface in AutoCAD is not really easy... Thank you all, and sorry for my english (I'm Italian ), Flo

SEANT
I don’t have Photoshop but I believe it has tools similar to my Photo Paint that allow paths to be created from masks. If you were to export those paths they may be able to be imported into AutoCAD. See “Logo.dwg” attached. I was able to process and extrude that geometry as seen in the first image. The second image was done via a prototype add-on. The add-on’s routine can create a heightmap displacement surface that can be used via SurfSculpt or Slice command. See second image. JD Mather
That is a very simple image. I'm not sure, but I think Photoshop would output that as splines (and hatch) in dwg rather than the simple lines and arcs that it is. Therefore I would bring the image into AutoCAD and redraw overtop the image using lines and arcs. Looks like about 30 minutes of work.
