Scott44 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I received a drawing containing these receptacles and other blocks. Whenever I go to move them the attributes jump around. If I try to burst or explode them or anything else, stuff appears everywhere. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to stop it from happening? I'm running autocad 2009 receptacles.dwg Quote
Tankman Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Scott: Many forum members don't have vs. 2009. I have 2000, 2005 & 2007 therefor, can't open the *.dwg file you attached. I did remove vs. 2000, no longer a need for it. All are full programs, no light versions. When I send *.dwg files, to many customers, I always save in AutoCAD vs. 2000. Most can open these older *.dwg files. E.I. duPont says, "Send us a *.pdf and *.dwg file, send the *.dwg file in vs. 2000." I guess not every CAD department hasn't upgraded to newer versions of AutoCAD. Quote
feargt Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 had a look at your drawing, while I cannot explain what is causing this behavior, I was able to combat it. Use attsync command, renter the first attribute SB and then moving and copying block works without problem Quote
Scott44 Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 thanks for your reply. ive attached a 2000 format file also...the attsync was an option that did seem o work but the main files contain many of the same blocks. half with the "att" tag saying something and half without. So if i use that method and retype the info in, it happens everywhere. I was hoping to avoid having to spend too much time per block. But so far it looks like thats my only option. Thanks for your help RECEPTS2000.dwg Quote
wannabe Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Have you tried setting the properties of the attribute to lock the location? Quote

My guess (without opening it but seeing feargt's solution) would be to blame it on redefining blocks several times without ATTSYNCing them, and I'm not sure when ATTSYNC or BATTMAN became available. Scott44 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 How do I lock the location of the attribute? Quote
Scott44 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 I found it. It didnt work. Oh well. Quote

dbroada Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 INTERESTING... The duplicate TAG names is never good. It looks like somebody has corrected that as if you insert one of the blocks it is now correct, and the visible attribute doesn't fly around either. You can "correct" all existing blocks with ATTSYNC or BATTMAN but that doesn't explain the behaviour of the attributes you have. It looks like their position is being scaled from within the block. As you move the block by N units, the attribute moves by N x Scale - but I have no idea how to replicaate this action. Quote
dbroada Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I've just realised that you aren't using vanila AutoCAD - there may be something added within your version of AutoCAD. Quote
Scott44 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Just tried it. It didnt work either. Quote
Scott44 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Im running Autocad MEP 2009. We received the drawings from someone else. I'm not sure what they used to create the drawings. Quote
dbroada Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 If I ATTSYNC here the block behaves as I would expect it to. I think the block has been redefined over time and not had its attributes re-synced. How the attribute flies around is beyond me. Quote
Scott44 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Looks like i'll be working with what i'vw got. Quote
