A393 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Anyone using revit and running it alongside RAM structural software. Any advice, can you pull data from the revit model to assist the RAM software, are you saving any time, are the models inter easily interchangeable, any common problems etc. So much to learn, so little time. Cheers & thanks in advance Quote
tzframpton Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Outputting from Revit to RAM once works. Or, outputting from RAM to Revit once works. But, constant bi-directional import/export... not to sound rude but - don't even think about it. Revit & RAM just isn't there quite yet. Quote
Lee Roy Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Why not just use one program? What are you gaining by using two for the same project? Quote
A393 Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 :)thanks for the comments. StykFacE....thats what i suspected but just thought id ask.... Lee Roy....we are just picking up Revit (from scratch) and currently use Ram for analysis....we will look into 'robot' structural analysis in the coming months.... Cheers Quote
PotGuy Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 A393, any update? Did you get a robot structure program? Quote
Alex Cunningham Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Round tripping with Analytic software can be done if you are aware of what problems exists before you begin. Knowing the limitations is the key here. Here are some of the highlights of working with RAM and Revit. I am quoting from a RTC2012 handouts prepared by Desirée Mackey. RAM: Elements/Properties supported for exchange • Grids* (only Revit to RAM) • Levels • Beams • Columns • Braces • Steel Joists • Trusses (members only) • Beam systems (Trusses only) • Floor slabs* • Slab edges* • Walls (bearing and structural combined only) • Openings: by face or wall openings only • Isolated footings • Reactions • Material Properties* • Camber • Studs • Section/size properties* • Section rotation • Structural usage/Analyze as* • Continuous/cantilevered beams (requires special setting) • End fixity/releases* *Can be exchanged once only, cannot be updated, also will likely only transfer one way (either Revit to RAM or RAM to Revit) RAM: Elements/Properties unsupported for exchange • Walls set to shear • Openings: shaft and profile/boundary • Foundation slabs • Pier/Pile caps • Loads, Load cases, Load combinations • Rebar/hosted rebar • Curved beams • Wall footings • Phasing Quote
