nader123 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Hi Everyone, I have a problem when I am trying to plot auto-cad drawing. I have tried to set the scale in layout to 1/8" : 1' and I create a page set up and choose 24x36 paper size then when I try to print leaving the scale at the printer window to be 1:1 but when I press preview to see how the plot going to be, the drawing became very small at the lower left corner of the paper. Would you please help to correct my problem and tell me what did I do wrong? Thank You Quote
ReMark Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Are you trying to plot from model space or from a layout? Quote
nader123 Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 I am trying to plot from the layout. but I want to know the difference. Thanks Quote
mohdtm Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 If you want to print with the scale 1:1 then why you set the layout pagesetup to 1/8":1'. Quote
ReMark Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 The difference is if you plot from model space you will have to know what scale you will be using and input that scale in the plot dialog box. When plotting from a layout it is the viewport that is assigned a scale however you plot at a 1:1 scale and let AutoCAD automatically take care of how to plot the viewport contents based on the scale you gave it. nader123 Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 I want to print to scale 1/8" : 1' but as far as I know if you print from layout the scale of the printer should remain 1:1 but you set the layout scale to the scale you want to use for the print out. Quote
ReMark Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 The scale (1/8"=1'-0") is assigned to the viewport that resides in your layout. Viewports are windows that let us see the objects we created back in model space. The layout scale is 1:1 and so is your plot. Quote
nader123 Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 I just need help to correct the hardcopy problem of the drawing printed out tiny on the lower left corner of the paper (24"x36") no matter if I print from model space or layout I am getting the same result. The only way I get the full page printout is to plot from model space using window around the drawing in the model space but the problem if I do that, is the scale (the print out scale is messed up). nader123 Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 I have attached one of the files that I have a problem printing it from layout or model space. Thank You New Boiler Stack - sheet 3 of 3.dwg.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) Changed my mind. Paper size: 24x36 What to plot: Window (pick the lower left and upper right corners of your border). Enabled "Center the plot" and "Fit to paper". Just tested using on our Designjet 500 (24" wide paper). Fits perfectly. Edited March 25, 2013 by ReMark Quote
SLW210 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Or..just draw a viewport 24" high and 36" wide, set the viewport to 1/4"=1'-0". Why did you think you needed a 1/8"=1'-0" scale? Quote
ReMark Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Really the only thing that needs scaling would be the title block and border (if he wants to plot to a 24x36 and leave a normal space between the border and the edge of the paper) as the remainder of the drawing (plan and sections) are not drawn to scale. Ski_Me Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Does this drawing need to be plotted to scale or do you just need it big enough to see the drawing because the drawing you have is not drawn to scale and the units are decimal not architecual. Quote
ReMark Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I amended my previous answer based upon a test plot of your drawing. See post #11 for my revised instructions. Quote
betterway Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Attached is the file with the titleblock moved to paperspace. There are 2 layout tabs. One with the viewport set at 1/8" = 1'-0" One with the viewport set at 1/2" = 1'-0". Plot 1:1 from either tab. Hope this helps New Boiler Stack - sheet 3 of 3.dwg -paperspace plot.dwg Quote
