Tridraft Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I've had some bad expereinces with pdf to dwg conversion software. Any recommendations for the best conversion program around? Thanks, TD Quote
Tridraft Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 I've also obviously had a bad experience spelling experience. Quote
dbroada Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 this has been asked many times and the general concensus is that there is no "best" program although you may find some recommendations for least bad. Generally tracing the pdf is the best way forwards but that obviously depends on what you have and what you need to do with it. Quote
JD Mather Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Probably the best technique is to contact the owner of the Intellectual Property (IP) and request a dwg file. There might be a reason pdf file was supplied. Quote
Tridraft Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Then I will rephrase: Has anyone had a good enough experience with a pdf to dwg conversion program to at least not want to bite the heads off puppies? I have four sheets of 24x36 dwgs that require minor, mainly annotation, changes. A few minor line changes. Thanks again, TD Quote
Tridraft Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 My client has only the line drawing hard copies. The original CAD files are not available. I was able to scan hard copies to pdf but now need to convert to dwg for the minor changes. Thanks. Quote
dbroada Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I have used the offerings from anydwg.com which were good enough for my use but nearly all fail to convert text to anything usable. good luck. Quote
Mike_Taylor Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 There are several companies (we use on here) that do great conversions. Take a look and see what is available in your area. The one we use takes special requests as well (layer conventions, text styles etc) which makes things very easy. Obviously we do have to pay ($150 CDN fir an Arch D sized sheet with a 24 hr turn around), which to me is quite reasonable. Quote
SLW210 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 You can give Adobe Illustrator a try, better than most. Text is hit or miss, best to convert that separately with an OCR program. Quote
Tridraft Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Mike, While I appreciate your help and would ordinarily use the recommendation I am afraid that after the demolition of my Habs the other night at the hands of the Maple Leafs I must defer. Ouch. Quote
rkmcswain Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 I was able to scan hard copies to pdf There is your issue. A scanned PDF is nothing more than a PDF container for a TIF (raster image) file, and raster to vector is an inexact science at best. Quote

Ouch. Haha, Pryce should nt have scrapped his old equipment. Although from past experiences he is going to be on fire come the playoffs (always follows a cold streak with a hot one). We shall see what happens tonight, and we may be meeting your Habs in the first round. Should be a fantastic series! Quote
