Greetings to all.

 

I am facing a problem here: I need to create an explanation of a 3D model (means there is x, y, and z coordinate) in 2D terms.

 

The base shape is something like this:

What I want to show is the part where the lines are joint. There is a lot of angle involved, the standard polygon angle and the dihedral angle.

 

What I want to show is the dihedral angle, around the joint but no lines are actually parallel to any of the axis. Therefore I would like to get an advice over this matter on how to explain properly this part to layman (contractor, client, etc).

 

Perhaps as well, someone could point me to a right direction of research. I tried researching using the keyword "3D CAD drawing", and "3D Detail Drawing" but nothing comes to fruition.

 

Hope that someone could help me find a solution. Thank you very much.

I'd start by defining what a right square pyramid is.

Are you trying to create a drawing that someone can build that shape from?

You could always resort to using a 3Dwireframe model to explain your object. Can you provide of an image of the actual object?

So my understanding is put the triangles inside the polyhedrons, then continue to provide relative length or angle.

The object looks exactly like this polyhedron, except without the surface. Just frames. This is what makes it a headache actually. If the client/contractor could understand a wire-frame drawing it would be nice.

Yes, although fist need to convince them that it is buildable and to ensure that it is build correctly.

 

On a side note, I really wonder how projects from Zaha Hadid are documented, with all the weird shapes, angles and such.

That's the exact same image you posted originally. I don't see the problem with anyone who has at least a high school education understanding the wire-frame drawing. On the other hand, building something like that would require some skill depending on what the material of construction was going to be. Lumber? Steel? Plastic? Other?

Yes it is. Just the changes are it is rod and with no surface. It is going to be steel with some special joinery. That joinery thing is bugging me, since it has different angle and to show it in precision is problematic.

 

Basically what I am trying to achieve now is something like this:

Though, instead of that angle, I am using the polyhedron's angle, and it is going to be steel, with screw holes and such.

 

And now I am having problem to create such joint, and to make it smooth. Will attach picture later.

That "Y" connector does not look that difficult to construct as a 3D model. Once that is done you could extract the 2D views from the 3D model.
